Review: Warnemünder boys in the Kurhausgarten

“Warnemünde, today we are back again” sang the Warnemünde boys at their concert in the Kurhausgarten yesterday. The joy of the performance was equally great among the maritime regulars' table, as the group calls itself, and the audience. With old sea shanties and oldies with their own lyrics, the shanty musicians sang about their hometown of Warnemünde and life at sea for two hours, thereby spreading a good mood and a happy atmosphere on and in front of the stage.

“A year ago we played here in the pouring rain in front of about 15 people. That’s why we’re even more pleased to be able to perform in nice weather and in front of a large audience,” said Norbert Ripka from the Warnemünder Jungs. He also explained why the music group describes itself as a maritime get-together and not a shanty choir. “Every first Wednesday we meet in the “Seekiste” for a regulars’ table and create a musical atmosphere there,” was the statement.

The Warnemünder boys started their concert yesterday in the Kurhausgarten with a hymn of joy and praise for their cherry liqueur. This was followed by shanties about wanderlust and homesickness, Warnemünde and life as a sailor. The audience swayed along enthusiastically.
