“Smoke on the water”: festival atmosphere in the Kurhaus garden

Yesterday there was a festival atmosphere at the open air “Smoke on the Water” in the Kurhausgarten. Numerous music fans came to watch the 17th edition of the music festival for the novel and CD edition of the same name by the Warnemünde writer Michael Terpitz.

The coastal country band “Spill featuring Peter Grützmann” took over the musical start of the 17th “Smoke on the Water” festival with their well-known hits and songs from the new album, which will be released shortly. The guest musician Peter Grützmann presented two solo pieces. “That was a good introduction to our open air “Smoke on the Water,” commented organizer Andreas Buhse from the Warnemünde recording label Coaast TMP.

Following “Spill”, the local youth took over the music on the Kurhausgarten stage. “Smoke on the Water” veteran Ola Van Sander performed with students from his guitar school with the “Youth Rocks” project. In the concert with their guitar teacher Ola Van Sander, also the frontman of the Celtic rock band “Bad Penny”, the young rockers showed what they were capable of musically. The “Easterlings” is the name of the group that started the concert evening with the title “Neglected, but free”. Of course, the Deep Purple song “Smoke on the Water” couldn’t be missed. The audience in the fully occupied Kurhausgarten was thrilled.

Andreas Buhse, aka author Michael Terpitz, talked about an interesting coincidence when he announced Ola Van Sander and “Jugend rockt”: “I had the idea of recording something in my book “Smoke on the Water” that used to happen here in the Kurhausgarten - namely regular concerts. In it I describe a concert in which the main hero plays a third of a concert with the students from his guitar school. I came up with the story five years ago, and now that’s exactly what’s happening – without any consultation – on stage.”

According to old tradition and to the great joy of the numerous fans of the music group, Ola Van Sander performed with his band “Bad Penny” in the evening and rocked the stage of the Kurhausgarten. The concert was the release show for the new CD “Misty Mountain Blue”. “Smoke on the Water” organizer Andreas Buhse’s conclusion was positive: “I am very satisfied with the response. It was really full from the start!”
