Heide Mundo: Music is her life

Her songs are regularly played on the radio, she has made a number of television appearances and has also released several CDs: Heide Mundo from the Warnemünde Verein is an absolute thoroughbred musician and can look back on over 50 years of stage experience.

Music has been part of the life of Rostock-born Heide Mundo, who grew up in Warnemünde, since childhood. Since the age of twelve, she was the first girl from Mecklenburg to perform with various Rostock bands on bass, rhythm and melody guitar. Back then she still played rock, today Low German songs are her hobby. “I actually come from rock and blues and used to be the only girl with an electric guitar. “We built the bass and the amplifier ourselves back then,” says Heide Mundo, remembering the beginnings of her musical career. She doesn't regret switching from rock music to Low German songs: "I grew up with Low German and always thought Low German music was great." With "Jochens Lüd" and the Rügen song, she was one of the best-known musicians in the genre on the Baltic Sea coast.

The first radio and television appearances followed in 1987. Her main job was as a soloist and band singer in various formations on the Baltic Sea coast. In 1990, right after reunification, Heide Mundo was the first woman from Mecklenburg to get an artist contract with the West German record company Arminia. In 1991 her debut album “Mien Herzing” was released with the northern hit “Snack Platt” from the ARD author competition “Songs as beautiful as the North”.

After training as a primary school teacher with an elective in music, the Warnemünde native completed university studies in Potsdam to become a qualified music teacher with a focus on singing and guitar. Even today she is still asked to be a music teacher for the student radio. That makes her happy: “I always enjoyed being a music teacher.” Even after completing her training, she continued to perform as a band and orchestra musician on a part-time basis.

Appearances and regular presence on the radio with her songs are still part of the Warnemünder's everyday life. Heide Mundo also passes on her musical knowledge to other singers as choir director of the women's crew “SingManTau”. On Saturday, July 10th, the women's choir opens at the Warnemünder Woche the shanty afternoon in the Kurhausgarten with a one-hour concert. The now 69-year-old has also been involved in the non-profit association for Warnemünde for many years, which runs the summer festival Warnemünder Woche organized.
