IDM Sea Sailing Day 2: Lots of waves and two races

The start of the International Sea Sailing Championship was yesterday marked by a medium-distance race, which Dietmar Wendel won according to calculated time with his Hanse 370 “Relax de Luxe”. The yacht outfitter from Greifswald decided today, on the second day of the IDM, not to sail the two races in order not to put too much strain on his inexperienced crew. The eight hours of middle distance the day before had put a lot of strain on many crews in demanding conditions. This means that Wendel is now in tenth place in the field of twelve ships. The overall lead is held by Jürgen Klinghardt with his Italia 9.98 “Patent 4”, who won both races today. Behind them are the “Halbtrocken” from Knut Freudenberg, a First 36.7 from Flensburg. Third place goes to Kai Haupthoff with the “Varuna X Press” from Eckernförde. “Everything went well today. We only had a two-hour start delay in the morning, but then we completed two tough races. In the second race the sun even came out,” said race director Laura Kühlewind. Tomorrow there will be one Up & Down and one Round the Cans race, bringing the total number of races to five before the final spurt on Sunday.
