Construction site on the Mittelmole: State sports school is growing and growing

It's Friday again. Concrete arrived again, like every Friday for eight weeks. The pump spits out at the push of a button. The second exposed concrete wall is poured. The sole of the future boat hall is currently being removed.

Since November last year, there has been ramming, shafting, piles pouring, formwork, geothermal strands laid, reinforcements braided - a wide variety of civil and structural engineering trades are currently engaged in a labor-intensive meeting on the Mittelmole. The state sports school for the class of 2023 will be more functional and beautiful than the former one, which was partly built by the sailors themselves and in countless voluntary hours.

The state sports association is investing a total of 20 million euros, with the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania contributing 2,15 million. Once completed, the sports school will offer excellent conditions for top and popular sports and the Warnemünde sailing area will receive another special “i” point. In the first construction phase, five conference rooms, 4.000 rooms, offices, dining and club rooms will be built on 54 square meters. The second floor slab, measuring 360 square meters, is already finished. The boat hall and a special workshop will be located here.

Of course it's also important to them Warnemünder Woche commemorated in the first week of July each year. The referees will find the best conditions in the conference rooms. The Race Office can finally work in a concentrated manner in the new building with all the technical requirements. Comfortable accommodation for sailors and officials will be created. Last but not least, the press office is coming out of its temporary arrangements and is even closer to the racing action.

To the 84.Warnemünder Woche The construction management from Warnemünder Bau and the organizers moved as close together as possible together with the sailors on the marina area. Thanks to the new, spacious platforms in the marina and the two slipways now available, both construction workers and the athletes try not to hinder each other.

Jörn Etzold, who himself has been responsible for over 15 years Warnemünder Woche played a key role in the organization and is now the head of the sports school and the Warnemünde marina, states: “The 84th Warnemünder Woche is of course hindered by the construction work. However, all sailors, the organizers and the many helpers treat each other with consideration and tolerance. Everyone wants normality to return to the Mittelmole soon.”

Even if the 86th Warnemünder Woche Although 2024 is still more than a stone's throw away, the construction site doesn't finish work until 16 p.m. and the crane also turns on Saturdays. Jens Düsing, construction manager at Warnemünder Bau promises: “It’s a matter of honor, we’re all trying to do the best work here!”

And today, like every Friday, the concrete will be rolled in heavy vehicles in heavy vehicles until December this year, for the benefit of sailing and for an increase in quality in the future too Warnemünder Wochen!
