505cc European Cup Day 2: Break near Bojsen-Møller

The sailors of the 505 European Cup were able to successfully finish two races today and now have a total of four races. The decision as to who wins in Warnemünde will probably be made on the final day of the European Cup tomorrow, as the first five places are only separated by five points.

“We had a very good day at the beginning and won the first race. In the second race we were also in the lead, but then our forestay broke. “We then had to go back to the harbor,” says Jørgen Bojsen-Møller, who remains in the lead with his brother Jacob regardless. Three races were originally planned for today, but the race committee led by Jules Tronquet decided to cancel the third race due to the wind decreasing around midday. This was good news for the Bojsen-Møller brothers on land, as only one race instead of two was scored with the maximum number of points and the aborted race counts as a cancellation. The two Danes would like to repair the damage to the boat by tomorrow, at the end of the 505cc European Cup.

Further information

After four races, Lutz Stengel and Frank Feller are still in second place, having first achieved second and then fifth place as Streicher today. Behind the Rostockers in third place, unchanged from the day before, is still the French crew Philippe Boite and Marin Carnot, who took third and fourth place today. The Bavarian-Baden-Württemberg crew Stefan Köchlin and Andreas Achterberg improved to fourth place today, with a fourth and a second place. A fifth place in the first race and a day's victory in the second race pushed Stefan Böhm and Gerald Gross up to fifth place. The top five places are currently only separated by five points.

Race director Jules Tronquet was satisfied with the sailing day despite the canceled third race: “We had two nice races with medium, constant winds of around ten to twelve knots. The wind shift predicted for midday or early afternoon did not occur, but the wind then went down completely to around one or two knots. We had to abandon the third race at the windward buoy. But I spoke to the sailors in the harbor. They are all very happy and looking forward to tomorrow.”

On the final day there are three more races for the 38 participating 505s. The first start is scheduled for 10 a.m.
