WIRO Sports Day: well-attended participation stations and happy Opti winners

Yesterday, sports were the focus on the lighthouse forecourt. Clubs from the Rostock area presented their sports on stage at the WIRO Sports Day and invited people to try out the activities at the hands-on stations. The highlight at the end was a raffle for an Optimist among three Rostock sailing clubs. The lucky winners were from the Warnow Yacht Club.

Football target shooting with the Baltic Blue Stars Rostock, handball goal shots with measured throwing speed, hoops with the Seawolves, wheelchair basketball, and a rowing session on an ergometer: Visitors were able to try all of these and other sports at the WIRO Sports Day. It was a diverse offering that was well received, with the football station and wheelchair basketball being particularly popular.

On stage, a representative of the Baltic Blue Stars Rostock explained everything about the sport of football during the presentations. The audience learned, among other things, the differences between non-contact flag football and tackle football. The club's teams and their successes were also reported on. At the same time, club members, decked out in their football gear, demonstrated throwing a football egg. Those who wanted to try it out for themselves had the opportunity to test their accuracy and receive tips on correct throwing technique at the club's hands-on booth.

The highlight at the end of a successful, well-attended WIRO Sports Day was the raffle for an Optimist sailing boat. The boat was raffled off among three Rostock sailing clubs, all of which have a large number of Optimist sailors and also compete in international regattas. The winners come from the Warnow Yacht Club. The club's youth officer, Robert Kobus, was delighted with the young sailors. "We're very happy. Our club Optis are gradually getting on in years, so it's great for the children to get a new boat. Given the high purchase price of an Opti these days, it's also fantastic from the club's perspective," says Kobus.
