WIRO sports day back at the lighthouse

After two editions in the Kurhausgarten, the WIRO Sports Day has returned to its old location at the foot of the Warnemünde lighthouse. With success: despite the storm warning, the event was consistently well attended. Eleven clubs from the region presented their sports. Not far away, musical female power was offered on the stage in the Kurhausgarten: the Berlin women's band “Stella rockt!” and the “Sophie Huth Band” played.

For anyone interested in sports, the lighthouse forecourt was the right place for the WIRO Sports Day yesterday from 14 p.m. to 19 p.m. In front of an LED screen with sports impressions, representatives of local sports clubs gave an insight into their club life and their sports. For example, the audience learned many details about the fairytale rise of the “Rostock Seawolves” into the basketball Bundesliga. The Seawolves' press spokesman, Thomas Käckenmeister, reported on the first year in the 1st Bundesliga. Club mascot Wolfi listened with interest and thrilled the children in the audience with his performance. The 100-minute documentation of the climb, “A Litter for Eternity,” will be shown free of charge on Saturday, July 8th, from 17.30:16 p.m. as part of the WIRO wish films on a XNUMX square meter LED wall on the middle pier. The Seawolves also provided information about their inclusion team “WeWolves” for people with intellectual disabilities and the youth development program “Basketball goes to school”.

In addition to several other clubs, the handball players from HC Empor performed, the volleyball players from SV Warnemünde demonstrated their skills at the net and the “Rostock Griffiness”, the cheerleaders of the American footballers “Rostock Griffins”, reported on their successes. The group of older cheerleaders is heading to the European Championships in Wiesbaden this weekend. The junior group has qualified for the World Cup in Japan.

But there was something for the audience to experience not only on stage, but also in front of it. On the lighthouse forecourt there was the opportunity to shoot baskets with the basketball players, try shooting at the goal with the handball players or try throwing a football at the target.

The change of location back to the busy lighthouse forecourt worked perfectly for the WIRO sports day. Due to the more compact structure, the visitors were the Warnemünder Woche much closer to the action this year. And a lot of the walking public also spontaneously stopped at the sports day. “It’s great to be back at the lighthouse,” said Jörn Anders from WIRO. All clubs represented are sponsor partners of WIRO and thanked the housing company for their sponsorship with their appearance.

Not far away, four Berlin women rocked the stage in the Kurhausgarten yesterday afternoon. In two sets, the women's band “Stella rockt!” presented powerful capital city rock with cover songs and their own songs at Ladies Day. In the evening, the “Sophie Huth Band” provided even more female power in the Kurhausgarten.
