Festival concert to open the 85th Warnemünder Woche

The 85th anniversary was celebrated with the traditional Niege Ümgang parade and the subsequent stage program in the Kurhausgarten. Warnemünder Woche officially opened yesterday morning. In the evening, the festival concert attracted numerous visitors to the Warnemünde Evangelical Church. The Warnemünder Kantorei organized the festive concert together with Mecklenburg chamber soloists as well as the soprano Antje Rux from Berlin, Ruth Geigle-Bucksch (alto) as well as tenor Shino Choi from Rostock and Maik Gruchenberg (bass) from Halle. The cantor Sven Werner took over the musical direction. Thematically appropriate Warnemünder Woche He selected pieces related to water for the festive concert - such as “Vineta” by Johannes Brahms, which is about the legend of the sunken city. In the “Vineta” poem by Johann Ludwig Wilhelm Müller (1794-1827), set to music by Brahms, the wave-shaped choral movement symbolizes the sea that stands between the inaccessible, sunken city and those viewing it. In Brahms's work, water was seen as an insurmountable obstacle, and subsequently in the piece “Le Banquet Céleste” by the French composer and organist Olivier Messiaen as a life-giving drop. The choir and soloists, supported by the orchestra, presented Fanny Hensel's song of praise “My soul is silence” with powerful voices, before the concert concluded with the Coronation Mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Fanny Hensel, née Mendelssohn, celebrated the birth of her son Sebastian with the cantata Lobgesang.
