Beach-Rugby-Tournament

Since 2019, Warnemünder has been the summer hotspot for rugby players from all over Germany. At the only beach rugby tournament on the German Baltic Sea beach, 12 men's and six women's teams create enthusiasm among the spectators with their powerful physical effort in the fight for the egg. This means that the Strand Arena Warnemünde is also on the second weekend Warnemünder Woche a real attraction.

The fight for the crown in German beach rugby

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, the fight for the crown in German beach rugby will take place again on Warnemünder Strand from 10 a.m. For the final weekend of the 86th Warnemünder Woche In addition to sailing, there is another sporting highlight to marvel at in the Strand Arena Warnemünde. In cooperation with the Rostock Tourism Office, the only beach rugby tournament has been taking place on the German Baltic Sea beach since 2019.

A total of 12 men's and six women's teams will scour the fine sandy beach below the lighthouse and "Teapott" in search of the "rugby egg" and create excitement in the large spectator stand with tough tackles and quick moves. Last year, the REWE Flying Pirates from Berlin were able to win the coveted men's trophy and of course they want to defend it. But the competitors from the rugby strongholds of Hamburg, Heidelberg and Jena as well as the hosts from Rostock are highly motivated to dethrone last year's winner.

The women want to take the next step this year and, after finishing 5th in the last tournament, finally reach the final and then lift the coveted trophy themselves with a lot of power and a bit of luck. On the way there, the tournament favorite and last year's winner from Jena must first be defeated in the group phase and the strong teams from Potsdam, Halle and Erfurt must be left behind in the table.

The team at the “Wal-Strandbar” provides catering right next to the Strand Arena. A colorful supporting program is sufficiently provided along the Warnemünde promenade, so a visit to the Warnemünder Woche as well as the Strand Arena are definitely worth it.
