Preview of the sailing program: “Sensational mix”
With several sailing locations within Warnemünde, the Warnemünder Woche unique basic requirements for organizing a top sailing event that is perfectly tailored to the needs of the individual classes. A first look at this year's sailing program (July 2-10, 2022) reveals a diverse mix that covers almost the entire spectrum of sailing.
The middle pier belongs to the dinghies
The central pier with the newly developed marina and the large slip ramp is the ideal starting point for the dinghy classes. Here are the first part Warnemünder Woche the 505 in focus. The two-man dinghy class is visiting Warnemünde as part of the Euro Cup, a regatta series with four stations across Europe. “We are pleased to welcome the 505s! Last year the class was last part of the German Championships Warnemünder Woche. In the second half of the sailing week, the Lasers will flood the middle pier for their European Cup. Here, registration numbers of several hundred Laser sailors are the norm. The lasers traditionally represent the largest starting fields Warnemünder Woche, in the three laser classes 4.7 (ILCA 4), Radial (ILCA 6) and Standard (ILCA 7). The classes Pirate, Korsar, FD, OK-Jolle and Finn are also located on the middle pier.
Things will be spectacular on the beach
This year the Strand location is also part of the program again. The Warnemünde beach is not only extremely popular with holidaymakers and kite surfers, but also with them Warnemünder Woche relies on it as a starting point for top-class events: The iQFoil surfing class is coming to Warnemünde as part of its International German Championship. “It will be a real sensation on the beach!” says Peter Ramcke. iQFoil is the newest Olympic sailing discipline, making its Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Games. The foiling, extremely fast surfers own the beach in the first half of the Warnemünder Woche. The RS Aero class follows the iQFoils and is visiting for their German Open. The sporty one-man dinghy ensures that high-class sailing on the beach is also offered in the second half.
High dune, the stage for world champions
The Hohe Düne location with its infrastructure is perfectly suited for the keelboat classes Warnemünder Woche and will have its own event center. With the H-boats, one of the most widespread keelboat classes in the world is holding its world championship. “The H-Boat World Championships is certainly the top event this year,” says sports director Peter Ramcke. He expects strong Scandinavian participation. The Hohe Düne is also the location for the seagoing yachts. The swimming regatta begins, followed by the long-distance classic Rund Bornholm. New to the program this year is the IDM Sea Sailing Offshore.
Optimists on the Old Stream
As a visitor you can't get any closer to the sailing action, because for the first time the southern part of the Alter Strom is included in the sailing program. “The optimist class is holding a team race here that attracts the public,” says Ralf Bergel, chairman of the Warnemünder Woche. In this way, the many visitors to the country can also Warnemünder Woche be introduced to sailing. “All in all, we have a sensational mix on the water this year!” says Bergel, summing up the program.
