Daily summary Sailing: “Almost Mediterranean”

Lots of sun but almost no wind: That's what the morning was like in Warnemünde. What was a joy for the visitors to the strolls on land meant a postponement of the start for the sailors. But the wind that had already been announced by the weather forecast for midday came and it was a dream day on the water, as sports director Peter Ramcke summarized: “Fantastic races on all courses, in the sun and 15 knots of wind: That's 'Warnemünder Woche at its best!”

505 IDM: Day 2

If, after six races so far, the potential winner is a second place, then that speaks for the consistency of Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess. After three first places yesterday, the 505 legends delivered three second places today. Jan-Philipp Hofmann and Felix Brockerhoff from the Düsseldorf Yacht Club won a race and are still in second place. The French Philippe Boite and Marin Carnot won the third race of the day and thus took place behind the third-placed Lena Stückl/Johannes Tellen from the German Touring Yacht Club. A total of 44 crews are taking part in the German 505cc Championship.

H-Boat Ranking Regatta: Day 2

German H-boat master Holger Köhne from the Potsdam Yacht Club and his fellow sailors Jan Köhne and Sven Ulrich were able to further extend their lead after two races completed today. A win and a seventh place, which is initially considered a deleted result, added to yesterday's three races, makes eight points in the ranking. In second place is Peter Zauner (Yacht Club Seeshaupt) with 13 points, followed by Bernd Zimmermann (Tegeler Segel-Club) with 14 points. There are still two more days of regattas ahead of the 17 H-boats.

J/70 German Open: Day 1

The Hamburg entrepreneur Michael Grau from the North German Regatta Association is leading the German Open J/70 after the first three races. A first, a second and a third place are more than a solid start to the event. Grau is supported on board by the Australian sailing professional David Chapman, who is no stranger to the J/70 class: in 2019 he won the Sailing Champions League for the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron as skipper in St. Moritz. However, Michael Grau's illustrious crew list also offers another world-class sailor: the Briton Gerry Mitchell is, among other things, a three-time Volvo Ocean Race participant and multiple Farr 40 world champion. The crew is completed by Florian Thoelen.

Michael Grau's clubmate Carsten Kemmling follows in second place. The editor-in-chief of the sailing portal segelreporter.com enthused in the evening: “It was a lot of fun today! It was fantastic sailing with whitecaps - almost Mediterranean.” After seventh place in the first race, the Hamburg resident and his crew took first and second place. Lukas Feuerherdt from the Blankenese Sailing Club is currently in third place overall, followed by helmsman Johanna Meier from the Warnemünde Academic Sailing Club in fourth place. The Bundesliga sailor was also happy about the day of sailing: “It was a lot of fun today. There wasn’t much wind at first, but later we had a lot of pressure!”
