The wind and weather forecast promises a picture-perfect day. Looking at the forecast, sports director Peter Ramcke was enthusiastic and expressed a wish: "This looks like a perfect day. We'd like it to be like this all week." A moderate and steady westerly wind should ensure a nice, long wave, and the sun should break through the clouds every now and then. This should make for a great day for the fast dinghies that will be racing the first half of the week. The opening event of the regattas, however, remains traditionally reserved for the offshore sailors. They will start at 10 a.m. in the Mecklenburg Seaside Regatta. This is the first part of the three-part offshore sailing series, which continues with the Round Bornholm and the Gedser Regatta. The series culminates in the awarding of the Warnemünder Woche Cup and the WIRO XXL Cup, for the best crews in each of the two groups. With a small field heading west from the harbor's Mittelmole, the first starting signal serves as a warm-up for the rest of the day.
At noon, the racecourses west of the fairway will be packed with activity with the start of the three Ilca classes. Over 12 participants have registered for the European Cup. And the nations represented by the competitors reflect not only all of Europe, but also South America and Asia. Peter Ramcke is enthusiastic about the response: "These are truly fantastic fields. We'll have the Ilca 300 and Ilca 7 sail in two groups each, and the Ilca 4 in three."
In addition to quantity, quality is also important. The strongest German junior team in the classes will have to stretch itself to secure a home victory in Warnemünde.
This also applies to the 505s, which will take to the track at 13 p.m. The fives are filled with the German elite, tough competition from Scandinavia, France, and Poland, and even two boats from Australia.

"It's a strong first half, but things will calm down a bit on Wednesday and Thursday before the regattas pick up again for the second weekend," says Peter Ramcke, looking forward to nine exciting days of racing.
