In the middle of the sailing action

Sailing live on land: The large yachts and their crews are ready, the presenters are prepared, and a motorboat is ready for the camera. When the starting gun is fired for the classic offshore sailing race Around Bornholm on Monday at noon, sailing fans can be there up close. The action will be brought from the water to land via a presenter in the Warnemünde Beach Arena and live images on the screen in front of the lighthouse. Uli Große, sailing expert and well-known voice on the central pier, will expertly comment and explain the battle for the best starting position to the audience on the beach.

Starting at 11.30:47 a.m., visitors to the Strand Arena Warnemünde can enjoy the live commentary. The images will be shown simultaneously on the screen in front of the lighthouse. And fans can prepare for pure excitement. A record-breaking field of 250 boats will set off toward Bornholm. The starting gun will fire within sight of the beach. XNUMX nautical miles then lie ahead of the crews. The course will take the yachts clockwise or counterclockwise around the Danish island, depending on their tactical decisions, before returning to Warnemünde.

Unlike last year, it could be a fast race. A westerly wind is forecast for the start, pushing the fleet along. As the race progresses, the breeze is expected to shift to a northerly direction, ensuring a swift return leg.

The battle for the title of fastest ship will likely be a duel between the two former ocean racers from RV Greifswald. Last year, Otto Timm's "Ospa" prevailed over the "Illbruck" after one day and almost 16 hours.

But this year, other exciting yachts are competing, hoping for a fast race. The "Vineta," owned by the Hamburg-based Scheder-Bieschin family, which was only stopped by a broken tiller while leading the Baltic 500 race, is a fast boat. And the "Störtebeker," helmed by Hendrik Westphal of the ASV in Rostock, should also be good for a fast cruise around Bornholm.

The Round Bornholm Regatta is of great importance within the offshore sailing series, including the Warnemünde Week Cup and the WIRO XXL Cup. The results count towards the rankings threefold, along with the Mecklenburg Seaside Regatta and the Gedser Race.
