Two top events in junior sailing: Zoom8 World Championship and O'pen Skiff Eurochallenge
The next generation of sailors will compete at the 88th. Warnemünder Woche At the international level, the Zoom8 class will host its third world championship title in Warnemünde (July 7-12). Meanwhile, the O'pen Skiff class will make its debut in the Baltic Sea resort with the Eurochallenge from July 6-8.
Before the O'pen Skiff Eurochallenge 2026 arrives in Warnemünde, the class will meet in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia, over Easter weekend for the opening event of the regatta series. Around 120 young sailors in the U13 and U17 age groups are expected there. Nine nations have registered, including many sailors from Italy, as well as sailors from Germany, Lithuania, India, Poland, Switzerland, the USA, the British Virgin Islands, and Hungary. The second stop of the Eurochallenge is Barcelona in mid-May. The Eurochallenge will then make its Warnemünde Week debut in July at the third event, before the final takes place in mid-September on Lake Balaton in Hungary.
The O'pen Skiff is a modern 2,75-meter single-handed dinghy for young sailors aged eight to sixteen. The boat is used in national and international regattas and is equipped with a sail area of 3,8 or 4,5 square meters.

The Zoom8 class is not very common in Germany, but it is now very well known in Warnemünde. It is participating in the [event name] for the third time in a row. The Zoom8, a single-handed dinghy measuring just 2,65 meters in length, was developed in Finland in the 1990s as a transitional boat between the Optimist and subsequent classes and is particularly widespread in Austria, Scandinavia, Russia, and the Baltic states. This was also evidenced by the entry lists of the last two Zoom8 World Championships in Warnemünde, which included many participants from Austria and Scandinavia, as well as Estonia. The Dane Alfred Heinemeier Madsen was crowned World Champion in Warnemünde in 2024, and the Finn Sisu Selio was crowned World Champion last year. "It's wonderful to see that the Zoom8 class likes our sailing area so much that they are returning to Warnemünde again this year with their highest-ranking regatta," says Bergel.
