With the publication of the tender and the opening of the registration portal, the sporting preparations for the 88th Warnemünder Woche The event was a success. From July 4th to 12th, sailors from all over the world will meet for a total of 20 competitions. Exactly 100 years ago, the Warnemünde Sailing Club organized a regatta that was the first Warnemünder Woche It went down in history. Since then, the event has developed into one of the largest sailing events in Germany.
A World Championship, a Eurochallenge, four International German Championships, a German Open, a German Best Ranking and the races of the Eastern District Championship are among the sailing competitions of this year. Warnemünder WocheThis makes the major sailing event for eight classes a season highlight. The sailing program is rounded off by four ranking regattas and two offshore races. For the first time in 2026, Pınar Coşkuner Genç from Turkey will head the race management.
The wide range of classes offered proves that Warnemünder Woche Once again, it's clear that it's an event for all ages and skill levels. The youngest up-and-coming sailors will compete alongside seasoned veterans with decades of regatta experience. Recreational sailors are expected, as are top athletes. Five catamaran races will bring a splash of color to the regatta, as the twin-hulled boats with their colorful sails launch from the beach. "We're delighted to be able to present such a wide range of very different classes again this year. Being able to host the Zoom 8 World Championship again is, of course, a highlight, but the catamaran races also promise thrilling action," says Ralf Bergel, Chairman of the Warnemünder Woche.
The youngest sailors will compete at the highest level off the Mecklenburg coast: at the Zoom 8 World Championship and the O'pen Skiff Eurochallenge. The Zoom 8 class sailors now have a close connection to... Warnemünder Woche, because they are sailing there for the third time in a row, competing for the world championship title. The O'pen Skiff sailors are also already familiar with the Warnemünde sailing area from past regattas within the framework of the Warnemünder Woche.

Sailors with decades of experience at the international level are expected to participate in the Finn and OK dinghy ranking regattas. OK dinghy regattas have a long tradition in Warnemünde. The class regularly competes at the Warnemünder Woche Around 110 athletes made for an impressive starting field at the 2025 OK Dinghy European Championship off Warnemünde. Top sailor André Budzien from Schwerin finished fourth overall and also took second place in the Finn dinghy ranking regatta. He will likely take the opportunity to compete in both classes in Warnemünde again this year.
Large presence at the Warnemünder Woche This year, catamarans will be featured in races across five classes. At the start of the week, the focus will be on the Topcats in three classes, all vying for the German Best Ranking – fast-paced races are expected. The 5.5-meter K1 is sailed by two people and is among the fastest daggerboard-less catamarans. Smaller, but still fast, are the K2, also sailed by two people, and the solo catamaran K3. The three Topcat classes, with their distinctive red and white sails, will take to the regatta course from the beach at Hohen Düne between July 4th and 6th.
Other twin-hulled boats will also start from there from July 10th to 12th: Hobie 14 and Hobie 16. The class of typical beach catamarans will meet in Warnemünde to sail their International German Championship and, with their colorful sails, will provide summery splashes of color on the water in addition to exciting races.
The Beneteau First 18, the Kielzugvogel, and the J/70 classes will also be competing for the national title in the second half of the week. Among those participating in the J/70 German Championship is a successful Paralympic sailor: Siegmund Mainka, who won a Paralympic gold and a silver medal in the three-person keelboat Sonar and currently sails for the Yacht Club Möhnesee in the J/70 class.
This year, sailors in the Dyas class will be collecting ranking points in Warnemünde. This sporty two-person keelboat is sailed with a trapeze and spinnaker. The Korsar class will also be competing in a ranking regatta. The Ilca class will bring a touch of Olympic flair to Warnemünde with the Eastern District Championship regatta. From July 4th to 6th, the Ilca 4, as well as the Olympic classes Ilca 6 and 7, will be competing.
Exciting races are guaranteed on the offshore course as well. The starting gun for the Mecklenburg Seaside Regatta will fire on the opening Saturday. Two days later, on Monday, July 6th, the offshore sailors will embark on the long-distance race, the Round Bornholm Regatta. The crews will face approximately 250 nautical miles, testing their endurance, seamanship, meteorological knowledge, and sailing tactics. The overall ranking of the Yardstick group, based on the results of the Mecklenburg Seaside Regatta and the Round Bornholm Regatta, will determine the WIRO-XXL Cup.
The Navy takes the Warnemünder Woche As has happened several times in the past, this event provides the occasion for a local regatta for the trophy awarded to the most senior member of the local unit. The race is sailed with naval cutters and a crew of six.
A total of around 550 boats and approximately 1100 athletes are expected to participate in the 20 competitions. A crew of more than 300 volunteers will be on hand to provide support and ensure smooth operations both on land and on the water.
