Wind dies down: O'pen skiffs ride the Warnemünde wave
Around midnight, the last gusts of nearly 40 knots swept over Warnemünde. As the storm slowly moved towards the Baltic Sea, the wind subsided somewhat during early Thursday morning. Once again, a post-storm weather pattern dominated the sailing day at the mouth of the Warnow River: northwesterly winds averaging 18 to 22 knots. Finally, no rain, plenty of sunshine, and blue skies.

Pınar Coşkuner Genç became the first woman to take over the overall race management (Principal Race Officer, PRO) of the Warnemünder WocheThe Turkish woman knows the Olympic stage like few others. In 2024, she became the first woman to head the sailing competition at the Paris Olympics.

Over 30 knots: O'pen skiffs stay ashore, shortened round trip around Bornholm ends successfully
Several races were originally planned for the two O'pen Skiff classes today, but the weather conditions thwarted the children's plans. The O'pen Skiff race committee, led by Svenja Herziger, wanted to offer the sailors at least one option. After a hastily arranged meeting with the coaches, the plan was to try at least one race.

Part one successfully completed: Warnemünde simply offers good sailing conditions.
A light drizzle lay over the mouth of the Warnow this morning as the first crews for the long-distance race around Bornholm set off to trim their boats. Before heading out to the starting area off the beach, however, the crews had to present themselves. All crews had to be present on deck in front of the central jetty, wearing life jackets and clipped to the safety line, the mooring rope. Only then could they proceed to the pre-start phase.
