Official opening of the 88th Warnemünder Woche with "Niege Ümgang", tapping of the first keg of beer and a multifaceted summer festival program
Tomorrow will be the 88th. Warnemünder Woche The festivities officially opened with the traditional parade "Niege Ümgang," the tapping of the first keg of beer by Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger, and a stage program hosted by NDR (North German Broadcasting). To ensure no one misses the 23rd "Niege Ümgang" (a local festival), two marching bands will parade through Warnemünde tomorrow starting at 8:00 a.m. to wake everyone up. Following this, the participants will gather at the lighthouse plaza at 9:00 a.m. and begin the festive parade at 10:00 a.m. The route leads from Seestraße via Alexandrinenstraße, Kirchenstraße, Mühlenstraße, Kurhausstraße, and Seestraße back to the Kurhaus gardens. Among the participating groups are various sections of local sports clubs, historical figures from Warnemünde, shanty choirs, a mascot parade, Neptune and his entourage, as well as many other clubs, organizations, and businesses. Following this, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the opening ceremony will take place on the stage in the Kurhaus garden, featuring prominent figures from Warnemünde's historical and modern history, as well as dance and music performances. Diverse music program and Olympic talk on the beach
The Danish choir "Marielyst" will give a concert at 13 p.m. in front of the lighthouse. The topic of the Olympic Games will be discussed at a panel discussion about the Olympic bid at 17 p.m. in the Wal-Bar, right on the beach.
Classical music will fill the air from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the festive opening concert in the Warnemünde church, featuring approximately 70 singers from the Warnemünde Choir, accompanied by four soloists and the Mecklenburg Chamber Soloists orchestra under the direction of Cantor Sven Werner. The concert will open with an excerpt from a work by Mendelssohn, which was also performed in the summer of 1926, the year of the first Warnemünder Woche, which could be heard in the Warnemünde church.

Sporting action on the beach and on the southern Old Stream
Meanwhile, at the Warnemünde Beach Arena, the 30th Beach Handball Days will be in full swing, with action-packed matches taking place on the sand. Women's and men's teams from various German states have registered for the tournament on Warnemünde beach. To ensure that even those unfamiliar with beach handball can enjoy the spectacle, some matches will be professionally commentated. Each match consists of two ten-minute halves, with a penalty shootout following a tie. Four players from each team are on the court simultaneously. Fast-paced rallies, pirouettes, and clever plays guarantee thrilling action on the sand. Play begins at 10:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday, concluding at 6:00 PM on Saturday and 4:00 PM on Sunday. The finals are scheduled for Sunday starting at 2:00 PM.
The 28th Dragon Boat Festival of SV Breitling on the southern Alter Strom promises to be loud and action-packed. This year, for the first time, it will take place on the opening weekend, specifically on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mixed teams will compete in the Standard Boat (20-person large boat) and Small Boat (10-person junior boat) categories. The atmosphere on and along the course will be created by the drummers on the boats, who will set the stroke rate for their paddling teams, as well as by the spectators and participants cheering from the shore.

Windy start to the regattas of the 88th Warnemünder Woche

The Topcat classes K1, K2, and K3 will launch tomorrow from the beach at Hohen Düne for their International German Championship (IDB). Jörg Nachtwein, president of the German class association, will compete in the K2 class together with his wife, Karin Nachtwein. Vice President Gerrit Haake will sail in the K1. With their colorful sails, the catamarans will add vibrant visual interest to the water, in addition to the sailing action.
The Finn dinghies will compete in the ranking regatta starting tomorrow. Among them is three-time OK Dinghy World Champion André Budzien from Schwerin, who has also celebrated numerous successes in the Finn class. Thirteen yachts will compete tomorrow in the upwind/downwind race on the offshore course.
