Reception of the Mayor: Much praise for the volunteers and a touch of the Olympics

This year, too, there was much praise for volunteer work at the reception hosted by Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger at the 86th Berlin International Film Festival. Warnemünder WocheShe announced that she would be involved herself next year. She also looked a little towards the Olympic Games.

"We have fantastic sailing competitions with great athletes and also a fantastic range of sports on land. Added to this is the rich cultural offering, of which we are particularly proud," said Kröger at the reception. She praised the fantastic atmosphere at the Warnemünder Woche and named her first tapping of the keg at the opening as her personal highlight of the event. She briefly touched on the subject of the Olympics. In order to push forward a possible application to host Olympic sailing competitions, a small delegation from the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock is travelling to Paris to show the local sailing area and possible Olympic potential, she revealed.

In her speech at the reception, the President of the German Sailing Association, Mona Küppers, called for even more appreciation of volunteers. At the same time, she welcomed the fact that her suggestion from last year to refer to volunteers as the “crew” who are on board rather than as helpers had been implemented. She proudly reported that German athletes will be competing in all ten sailing disciplines at the Olympic Games in Marseille. This speaks for the quality of German sailing. She was pleased that the young athletes of the Warnemünder Woche Olympic ambitions are already noticeable.

The chairwoman of the Warnemünde Association, Astrid Voß, also had her say: "I think that the diversity of the land program is unique and I am pleased that the offers are so well received." But she also made it clear that it is not always easy to set up such an extensive land program on a voluntary basis.

Finally, Eva-Maria Kröger had a very special offer in store. In order to be even more involved in the Warnemünder Woche In order to immerse herself in the work, she would like to actively work with the volunteers in the coming year in order to gain a very concrete impression of the tasks.

The poster for the 87th Warnemünder Woche, which will take place from July 5nd to 13th, 2024, presented Pepe Hartmann, graphic designer and long-time event photographer Warnemünder Woche at the reception of the mayor. "What I enjoy most is working with the colors, which are a little different every year. The basic design scheme otherwise remains the same, so that the Warnemünder Woche is recognizable. The land part is included by the lighthouse," explained Hartmann.
