In the 88. Warnemünder Woche From July 4th to 12th, the high-caliber sailing competitions and the diverse summer festival program complemented each other perfectly once again. Wind conditions, ranging from stormy to light, sometimes presented a challenge for the sailors. Nevertheless, the 774 participants from 14 nations successfully completed all the scheduled races. The land-based program was very well received, featuring the second Glashagen beach concerts, the 22nd "Smoke on the Water" music festival, tournaments in the Warnemünde Beach Arena, the 28th Dragon Boat Festival, and a daily cultural program with offerings from traditional to contemporary. The organizers, both on the water and on land, are drawing a thoroughly positive conclusion.
The summer festival traditionally kicked off on the opening Saturday with the "Niege Ümgang" parade, which for the first time was organized by the newly elected board of the Warnemünde Association, elected in February. Board member Stefanie Conrad took charge of the organization. "It was very exciting, and I'm very happy that everything went smoothly. It was wonderful to see so many people lining the streets. Around 3000 participants took part in the parade, including some new groups," she said with delight. Following the parade, Eva-Maria Kröger, Mayor of the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock, officially opened the 88th festival on the Kurhaus Garden stage with the tapping of the first keg of beer from the Hanseatic Brewery Rostock. The "Smoke on the Water – The Open-Air by the Sea" music festival, now in its 22nd year, once again drew large crowds to the Kurhaus garden. The second edition of the Glashäger Beach Concerts was a major draw. Organizers reported around 5000 visitors at the event, which featured three top acts. German singer Soffie, rapper Fatoni, and the Chemnitz band Blond performed against the backdrop of the Baltic Sea, thrilling the audience. The theme of sport was not only present at the sailing regattas, but also at the well-attended WIRO Sports Day, where regional clubs presented their sports and invited visitors to participate. The focus was on top-level competitive sport at the Olympic Talk in the Wal-Bar, as well as on the Olympic Mile with interactive stations from various sports associations and information about the Olympic bid. At the 28th Dragon Boat Festival, teams from all over Germany brought a lively atmosphere to the southern part of the Alter Strom for a day. The International German Wheelchair Fencing Championship, held at the Hotel Neptun on the final weekend, added a touch of Paralympic flair.
